Projects
This is the new section for teaching students about using computer hardware and software together in the form of build it yourself projects. Each project involves designing a device with custom 3D printed parts, and controlling aspects of it with a small single board computer and other electronic components.
Below is a listing of our current projects.
Project 101: Weather Station
Our first project is a
weather station. This project uses a
Raspberry Pi single board computer to monitor and record the temperature, humidity, and time. The weather station is designed to fit in small plastic case and both displays a character readout of relevant weather data on its front display as well as serve a custom designed weather station website to chart your weather history.
Project 102: Custom Lighting
Out next project is
custom lighting. This project uses a Raspberry Pi Zero W single board computer to control lighting effect using 300 individually addressable lights known as neopixels. The custom lighting project includes a power converter and controlling computer to create imaginative lighting effects which can be manipulated over the Internet in realtime.
